Planned Giving
“The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” – Nelson Henderson
Your planned gift to Garrett’s Space provides the confidence and means to innovate and plan for the organization’s future.
When you make a planned gift to Garrett’s Space, you’ll join our Evergreen Society, creating healing spaces for young people for generations to come.
We recommend you consult with your lawyer, tax advisor, or financial advisor to help you decide what type of gift might be best for you and your loved ones.
Give by Bequest
Leave a gift to Garrett’s Space in your will or trust by specifying a percentage, fixed dollar amount, or a residual amount of what may be left over after all other distributions are made according to your wishes. Generally, all it takes is a couple of sentences, and there is no cost to you now.
Here are two examples of how to indicate a general or undesignated estate gift to support Garrett’s Space:
Sample Bequest of Remainder of Estate:
I give, devise, and bequeath to Garrett’s Space, 1400 Granger Ave, Ann Arbor, MI, 48104, Tax ID Number: 83-2751753, all (or state the fraction or percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal.
Sample Bequest of a Specific Amount:
I give, devise, and bequeath $______ to Garrett’s Space, 1400 Granger Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, Tax ID Number: 83-2751753.
Give Using Your IRA
You can also name Garrett’s Space as the beneficiary (or secondary beneficiary, after your spouse) of all or a percentage of the remainder of your IRA, and it will be transferred tax-free upon your passing. Retirement plans are often subject both to deferred income tax and estate tax, making this an ideal asset to leave to charity rather than your heirs. And, it’s easy to set up! Contact your IRA account manager to obtain a change-of-beneficiary form.
Give a Life Insurance Policy
If you own a life insurance policy you no longer need, consider naming an organization like Garrett’s Space as beneficiary, and the death benefit of the policy will go to Garrett’s Space. If you name Garrett’s Space as both beneficiary and owner, you’ll receive a charitable tax deduction for approximately the current cash value of the policy, as well as for any additional gifts you make to Garrett’s Space used to pay additional premiums. To put this in motion, contact your insurance company to obtain a change-of-owner/beneficiary form.
